The Windows Insider Program is not a separate app to reinstall; normally, restore it by re-enrolling the PC through Windows Update settings.
Re-enroll the computer
You need an administrator account and a licensed, activated copy of Windows.
Windows 11
- Open Start → Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program.
- Select Get started.
- If Windows requests optional diagnostic data:
- Select Open Diagnostics & feedback.
- Turn on Send optional diagnostic data.
- Return to Windows Insider Program.
- Select Link an account and sign in with the Microsoft account registered for the Windows Insider Program.
- Choose an Insider channel.
- Accept the program agreement and privacy statement.
- Select Restart now.
- After restarting, open Settings → Windows Update and select Check for updates.
The latest available preview build for the selected channel should then download and install.^1^
Windows 10
Open Start → Settings → Update & Security → Windows Insider Program, select Get started, link the registered account, choose a channel, confirm the agreements, and restart.^2^
If the Insider page is missing or updates do not arrive
Check these prerequisites:
- Activation: Open Settings → System → Activation.
- Insider configuration: Open Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program and verify that an account and channel are shown.
- Updates: Open Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Build information: Press Windows key + R, enter
winver, and select OK.
Windows must be activated to receive Insider Preview builds. Microsoft also recommends checking whether the device already has the latest build available for its selected channel.^3^
Repair or reinstall with an Insider ISO
Use an ISO only if ordinary re-enrollment is unavailable or the Windows installation needs repair.
For an in-place upgrade that keeps files and applications:
- Download an appropriate Windows Insider Preview ISO from the Windows Insider ISO page.
- Back up important files.
- In File Explorer, double-click the downloaded ISO to mount it.
- Open the mounted drive and run setup.exe.
- Select Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps.
- After installation, return to Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program and verify the account and channel.
A clean installation is the last resort. Choosing Change what to keep → Nothing erases files, settings, and applications, so create a backup first.^4^
