Install the ASUS chipset or Serial IO driver followed by the ASUS touchpad driver for your exact laptop model, because Windows cannot show the Touchpad settings or gestures while the device is not being detected correctly.
1. Identify the exact ASUS model
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
msinfo32 and press Enter.
- Note the System Model shown in System Information.
- Go to the official ASUS support site, search for that exact model, and open its Driver & Tools page. Avoid third-party driver-download sites.
2. Restore the required ASUS drivers
Download and install these Windows 11 drivers in this order:
- Under Chipset, install the newest applicable:
- Chipset driver, and
- Intel Serial IO/I2C driver, if offered for your model.
- Restart the laptop.
- Under Touchpad, Pointing Device, or Mouse and Input, install the ASUS-provided touchpad driver.
- Restart again.
A closely matching case—touchpad absent from Settings and working only like a basic mouse—was resolved by installing the laptop’s Serial IO/chipset driver first and then its touchpad driver.^1^
Do not use the driver or BIOS download linked for a different ASUS model; ASUS packages are model-specific.
After the second restart:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad.
- Expand Scroll & zoom.
- Enable Drag two fingers to scroll.
That is the Windows 11 location for the two-finger scrolling control.^2^
If Touchpad is still missing
- Right-click Start → Device Manager.
- Check both:
- Human Interface Devices
- Mice and other pointing devices
- Look for a touchpad entry such as ASUS, ELAN, Synaptics, HID-compliant touch pad, or Precision Touchpad. Microsoft documents both categories as possible locations.^3^
- If it appears with a yellow warning icon, right-click it and select Properties to read the error under Device status.
- If it appears normally, right-click it and select Uninstall device, confirm, and restart. Windows will attempt to reinstall its driver after restarting.^4^
Also check Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates and install any ASUS, chipset, Serial IO, HID, or touchpad driver offered there, then restart. Optional driver updates are not installed automatically.^5^
If the touchpad remains absent from both Settings and Device Manager after installing the exact ASUS packages, contact ASUS support with the laptop’s system model and BIOS version. A BIOS update is a model-specific fallback, not the first step; use only the update and procedure published for that exact model.
