Wrong time zone displayed on my Teams profile

My Teams profile shows my working hours and local time around 8 hours ahead of the actual time. The time is set correctly on my Mac. The correct timezone is also selected (London GMT) on my Outlook web profile. How do I force Teams to display the correct time?

Hi @Andrew Molloy,

The Local time and Work hours shown on your Teams profile card are derived from your Outlook/Microsoft 365 settings rather than directly from the Teams client.

Since your Mac time zone and Outlook Web settings are already configured for London (GMT), please try checking whether there is a mismatch between your Outlook time zone and your calendar/meeting time zone:

  1. Open Outlook on the web.
  2. Go to Settings > General > Language and time. User's image User's image
  3. Under Time zone, select Change.
  4. Even if the correct time zone is already selected, look for a message indicating that your meeting time zone differs from your Outlook time zone. User's image
  5. If you see a"Yes, update" option, select it to synchronize the settings.
  6. Save the changes, completely quit Teams, and then reopen Teams.

You may also want to verify your settings under Outlook on the web > Settings > Calendar > Work hours and location and confirm that both the time zone and work hours are correct, as Teams uses this information to populate the profile card.

If the issue persists, could you confirm whether:

  • The Teams calendar displays meeting times correctly?
  • The problem only affects the Local time/Work hours section of the profile card?

This will help determine whether the issue is limited to the profile card display or affects the account's overall time zone settings.

Thank you again for your time and understanding.  I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response.

Teams profile card time and work hours come from a combination of Outlook work hours, Outlook time zone, and Teams/device settings. Since the Mac time zone and Outlook on the web time zone are already correct, use this sequence:

    1. In Outlook on the web, verify the meeting-hours time zone again at Calendar > Settings > Calendar > View > Time zones.
      • The profile card time zone is tied to meeting hours.
      • If Outlook detects a mismatch between calendar time zone and meeting-hours time zone, update it there.
    2. In Teams on Mac, check whether Teams is following the OS time zone.
      • Go to Settings and more > Settings > General.
      • Under Language and regional formats, make sure Teams is using OS settings.
      • If needed, restart Teams after changing these settings.
    3. In macOS, open System Settings > General > Date & Time.
      • If Set time zone automatically is on, confirm it reflects the current location.
      • If it is already on but Teams still shows the wrong time, turn it off, manually select the closest city for London time, then reopen Teams.
    4. Restart Teams completely.
      • Teams may not reflect a time zone change until the app is restarted.
    5. If the profile card still shows the wrong local time or work hours, wait for Outlook-based profile changes to sync.
      • Changes made in Outlook can take up to 12 hours to appear on profile cards.
    6. If the issue remains after restart and sync time, the problem can be caused by incorrect or corrupted calendar working-hours settings.
      • In that case, an admin can verify the mailbox working-hours time zone with:
         Get-MailboxCalendarConfiguration -Identity <user> | FL WorkingHoursTimeZone

      • If the mailbox working-hours time zone is wrong, admin-side correction of mailbox regional/calendar configuration may be required.

    Relevant behavior for the screenshot:

    • The local time on the profile card is based on the cardholder's Outlook time zone setting.
    • The work hours on the profile card are based on the work hours set in Outlook.
    • Teams status and calendar availability are combined on the profile card, so a wrong work-hours time zone can make the card appear several hours ahead.
