I am in Ireland and my Windows 10 PC is already enrolled in the free Consumer Extended Security Updates programme using my Microsoft account. I want to pay for the one-time ESU option so that I can switch to a local Windows account without losing security updates. Windows Update currently shows that I am enrolled, but I cannot see a purchase option. Can you confirm whether my existing enrollment can be converted to the paid option, and provide the correct steps to do so?

    Hi Tasha,

As you may know, Ireland is part of the EU. In the EU, Microsoft provides extended security updates at no cost due to regulations.

Here is a supporting document from an year ago - 2027 is also covered in it.

    https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft/windows-10/major-backtrack-as-microsoft-makes-windows-10-extended-security-updates-free-for-an-extra-year-but-only-in-certain-markets

"We are pleased to learn that Microsoft will provide a no-cost Extended Security Updates (ESU) option for Windows 10 consumer users in the European Economic Area (EEA). We are also glad this option will not require users to back up settings, apps, or credentials, or use Microsoft Rewards."

So you can safely switch to Local account, and you will continue getting updates.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you good luck!
