A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
English-only support.
If the original Microsoft account email now shows “We couldn't find a Microsoft account”, the supported recovery path is:
- Run a full malware scan on the PC first before changing anything.
- Open Virus and threat protection
- Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now
- Use the Sign-in Helper tool first. It asks for the email address or phone number and either provides self-help steps or offers the chance to talk to an agent.
- Try password reset / account recovery.
- Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used for sign-in.
- If the email is not recognized, try another alias or phone number that was on the account.
- Check the exact email domain, such as
.comvs.co.uk, and spelling.
- If standard reset does not work, use the Microsoft account recovery form.
- Use a working email address that can receive messages about the recovery request.
- Provide as much information as possible.
- For Outlook.com/Hotmail.com accounts, exact email subject lines and contact details can help.
- Microsoft states it reviews the answers and responds within 24 hours.
- If the account is temporarily blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, reset the password to unblock it.
- After access is restored, review account settings immediately.
Check:
- connected accounts
- forwarding
- automatic replies
Important limits from Microsoft support content:
- If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or change account details.
- If the reset flow does not recognize the username, Microsoft support can be contacted through the support options listed on the support pages.
Purchase information can be useful when completing the recovery form, but the documented recovery process still goes through the Sign-in Helper and the account recovery form.
