I have already purchased a laptop with Windows 11 Home OEM preinstalled, and I would like to upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro.

Which license should I choose to upgrade my laptop while ensuring compliance with Microsoft's licensing policies?

  1. Windows 11 Pro Retail License – FQC-10572
  2. Windows 11 Pro OEI License – FQC-10528

Thank for your help

Hi,

Broadie gave a pretty appropriate answer to you. Here are some more details.

  • Windows 11 Pro Retail License – FQC-10572: Best if you want a transferable license. You can use the product key to upgrade your existing Windows 11 Home installation to Pro without formatting the laptop. The license can generally be transferred to another device, provided you remove it from the previous device and comply with Microsoft's license terms.
  • Windows 11 Pro OEI License – FQC-10528: Suitable if you want the Pro license to remain permanently tied to this laptop. OEM licenses are generally non-transferable to another device. Purchase it from an authorized Microsoft distributor and confirm that the specific OEI package is eligible for your intended use.

My recommendation is to the Retail license (FQC-10572) for greater flexibility. If you intend to use this laptop for its entire lifetime and do not need license portability, the OEI option may be suitable.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you good luck!

Hi @Dang Trung Duc ,
I would recommend using the Retail License, as the OEI is intended for companies who are building machines then selling, assuming that you won't be selling your laptop after changing windows versions.

If you have any further concerns, send them below.
Cheers,
Brodie
