To get Windows on a computer that did not come with Windows, use one of these supported paths:
- Buy Windows, then install it
- After purchase, go to Order history, find Windows 10 or Windows 11, and select Product key/Install.
- Select Copy to copy the key, then select Install.
- Select Download tool now and follow the wizard to create installation media and install Windows.
- Install Windows on a device with no operating system
- Create bootable installation media on another working Windows PC.
- Attach the bootable installation media to the computer with no operating system and turn it on.
- Windows Setup begins.
- When prompted, enter the Windows product key. Setup selects the correct edition based on the key.
- Boot from USB if needed
- Insert the bootable USB drive and restart the PC.
- During startup, open the BIOS or boot menu using a key such as F2, F12, or DEL.
- Set the USB drive as the first boot option.
- Restart and continue with Windows Setup.
If the goal is to avoid activation problems later, use a valid Windows purchase and enter the product key during setup, or use the key from the purchase in Order history.
