How many Copilot questions do I get a day with a free account?

It is never the same amount. However, when I redirect (for an incorrect response) it immediately says You've reached your daily limit.

Why?

Microsoft does not publish a fixed, guaranteed number of daily questions for free Copilot accounts. The limit depends on the Copilot product, account type, features used, and Microsoft's current usage restrictions. Although resource consumption and server capacity can affect availability, Microsoft does not publicly confirm a universal token-based formula or a specific daily question allowance for all free accounts.

The number of questions you can submit may vary because different requests require different amounts of processing. Long prompts, file uploads, image generation, and advanced reasoning or research features can consume more resources than short text questions. Microsoft may also apply temporary usage restrictions during periods of high demand. These factors can make the experience inconsistent, even when you appear to have submitted a similar number of questions on different days.

When you redirect Copilot after an incorrect response, the correction may require additional processing and may count toward your existing usage allowance. Copilot may also need to process previous conversation context to understand the correction. If your remaining capacity is already exhausted, the additional request can trigger the message “You've reached your daily limit” immediately. However, Microsoft does not publicly confirm that redirecting necessarily consumes more quota than an ordinary follow-up question or that conversation context alone causes this specific error.

Note that reaching the limit immediately after a correction does not necessarily mean the correction itself exhausted your allowance. You may already have been near the limit, or a temporary usage restriction may have taken effect. The error message does not reveal which condition occurred.

In short, there is no deterministic limits since AI, by design, is not deterministic
