Hello Team,

During validation testing of Microsoft Purview Sensitivity Labels in our REF environment, we identified inconsistent behaviour regarding the display of the configured sensitivity label description across Outlook clients.

The same sensitivity label is published through a single label publishing policy and assigned to the same users. No client-specific labels, policies, or configurations have been implemented.

Test Scenario

A sensitivity label with both a configured label name and label description was applied to email messages and tested across the following Outlook clients:

        2. If this behaviour is not expected, what corrective actions are recommended?
  3. Are there any Microsoft roadmap items or planned enhancements related to displaying sensitivity label descriptions consistently across Outlook clients?

    Run the Microsoft 365 sensitivity-label diagnostic from the Microsoft 365 admin center. This can identify label/policy issues and provide recommended resolutions; Global Administrator permissions are required

    For Outlook on the web, validate the sensitivity label:

    • ContentType includes File and Email
    • Disabled is False

    Validate the label publishing policy:

    • Workload includes Exchange
    • Mode is Enforce
    • The affected user is included in the applicable Exchange/Modern Group scope

    If the label itself appears correctly but only the description is missing, and the above settings are valid, the Q&A response does not provide a documented configuration change that specifically forces the description to appear in New Outlook or OWA
