Microsoft 365 Copilot issue: why Memory stays full even after “Delete all” attempt?

I have an issue: Microsoft 365 Copilot reports “Memory is full”, and deleted memories reappear after deleting and also after “Delete all”. Clearing chat history does not fix it.

I would rather preserve my memories, but I’m willing to reset them to get the feature working again. Right now, even that does not work.

A capacity limit is understandable. An invisible limit with no usage indicator and deletion controls that do not reliably delete is not. Users need clear information about memory usage and a working way to free up capacity.

Can Microsoft confirm whether this is a known issue and provide a supported fix?

    Hi, Marina Kulemzina

Deleting chats does not delete saved memories, but saved entries returning after “Delete all” is not the documented behavior. I couldn’t verify a public acknowledgment of this exact issue, a published capacity figure, or a confirmed fix.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Since you’d prefer to preserve your memories, avoid further resets for now. In Chat settings > Personalization, turn Saved memories off temporarily. This disables their use without deleting existing entries, but it is a workaround, not a capacity fix.

If you choose a full reset, note that Chat history & work insights is a separate control. Turning it back on within 30 days restores deleted inferred memories. That does not explain saved entries reappearing in the managed list.

For a work or school account, ask your IT admin to check Service health, then open a case through Help & support in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Include screenshots, deletion times, and whether entries return in both the app and browser. Ask support to investigate failed deletion before recommending another reset.
