The audio on my laptop is very low. When set to the highest volume level it is crackling. I have set volume to high and preformed the trouble shooting suggestions.

    1

    Open the old Control Panel.

At the top of the old Control Panel, set View to large icons.

    Open the Sound applet.

If there is an Enhancements tab, select that and disable all enhancement settings.

    2

Then, go to the support page for your laptop on the manufacturers website and from there, download and reinstall (not update) the version of HD Audio drivers and Graphics drivers they provide.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

Since volume is already set high and the built-in troubleshooting was already tried, the next supported checks are the Windows sound settings and driver path.

    1. Check per-app and system volume levels.
      • Windows 11: Start > Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer
      • Make sure both System and the affected app are turned up and not muted.
    2. Turn off audio enhancements.
      • Windows 11: Start > Settings > System > Sound
      • Under Output, select the active audio device.
      • Select Audio enhancements and turn them off.
      • Test audio again.
      • This is important because enhancements can reduce volume or cause distortion/crackling.
    3. Change the default audio format.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Output, select the audio device.
      • Select Advanced.
      • Under Default format, choose a different format and test again.
    4. Restart Windows audio services.
      • Press Start, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Right-click Windows Audio > Restart.
      • Right-click Windows Audio Endpoint Builder > Restart.
      • Test sound again.
    5. Update or reinstall the audio driver.
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
      • Restart the PC.
      • If the issue continues, uninstall the audio driver and reinstall the latest version from the device manufacturer.
    6. Check Windows Update.
      • Windows 11: Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
      • Install available updates, restart, and test audio again.

If the sound is still low and crackling after these steps, the remaining supported cause is the speaker/output device itself rather than Windows settings. Testing with another output device such as headphones can help confirm whether the laptop speakers are the problem.
