User's image hi,

If I want to cancel my current Microsoft 365 family subscription, do I just click leave, as in the screenshot?

    Hi, Paul Chou

The important detail in your screenshot is“Shared and managed by…”. This means you’re using a subscription someone else has shared with you, rather than managing the paid subscription yourself.

Yes, if you simply want to stop using that shared subscription, “Leave subscription” is the appropriate option shown on your screen. The earlier answer focused on canceling a subscription you purchased, which is a different situation. A person receiving shared benefits can choose to leave the subscription.

As an alternative, you can ask the subscription owner to remove your access. They can open their subscription’s Sharing page, find your account, and select Stop sharing. You’ll receive an email once they confirm. This option ends your shared subscription benefits without automatically removing you from the Microsoft family group.

So, for the subscription pictured, you don’t need to follow the purchase-cancellation steps just to stop receiving the shared benefits.

No—Leave is for leaving the family group/shared subscription, not for canceling the subscription itself.

To cancel a Microsoft 365 Family subscription that was purchased with a personal Microsoft account:

    1. Go to Services & subscriptions and sign in with the same Microsoft account that purchased the subscription.
    2. Find the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
    3. Select Cancel subscription. It might appear as Upgrade or Cancel.
    4. Follow the prompts to confirm cancellation.

    Important details:

    • If the page shows Turn on recurring billing instead, the subscription is already set to expire on the shown date, and no further cancellation is needed.
    • If the subscription was bought through Google Play, Apple App Store, or a third-party retailer such as Amazon, cancellation must be done through that seller.
    • After cancellation, storage reverts to the free allowance. If usage is above the free allowance, new OneDrive uploads/sync and Outlook.com email sending/receiving can be blocked, and after 6 months OneDrive files may be deleted.
    • If the goal is only to stop using the shared family benefits, then Leave would apply to leaving the family group, but that does not cancel the subscription.
