A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
AADSTS900561 means the sign-in flow reached an endpoint that accepts POST requests, but a GET request was sent instead. In sign-in scenarios, this is commonly caused by a broken browser sign-in session, stale cookies/cache, blocked third-party cookies, or a browser extension interfering with authentication.
Try these steps in order:
- Start a fresh sign-in session
- Close all browser tabs and windows.
- Open a new InPrivate/Incognito window.
- Sign in again from the normal Microsoft sign-in page instead of an old bookmark or saved redirect.
- Allow cookies
- If the browser blocks third-party cookies, the authentication flow can fail.
- In Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies and turn off Block third-party cookies.
- In Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies and select Allow third-party cookies.
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Clear cached files and cookies, especially for Microsoft sign-in sites.
- Then retry the sign-in.
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
- Privacy, ad-blocking, or script-filtering extensions can interrupt the sign-in flow.
- Disable them temporarily and test again.
- Try another browser, device, or network
- Test from a different browser.
- If needed, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- If the error appears only in one app, uninstall it and reinstall the latest version.
- Use another sign-in method if available
- On the sign-in page, select Other ways to sign in.
- Available methods can include PIN, security key, mobile app approval, or email code.
If this is happening in an app integration or custom sign-in flow, also verify that the authentication request is using the correct Microsoft Entra endpoint and that the app is not sending users to an endpoint with the wrong HTTP method.
