am experiencing a persistent issue with the camera toggle (F10) on my ASUS Vivobook 16X M1603QA, and I would appreciate your assistance in resolving it.

Issue description:

When I press F10 to toggle the camera, the on-screen display (OSD) notification sometimes shows an incorrect camera status or becomes stuck. When the Camera app is closed, pressing F10 repeatedly displays the same notification instead of updating correctly. When the Camera app is open, the toggle behaves differently, and the status can appear reversed. Initially, turning the camera off sometimes required two key presses.

The camera itself works correctly, and Device Manager reports that the device is functioning properly.

System details:

  • Laptop model: ASUS Vivobook 16X M1603QA

Operating system: Windows 11, version/build 26300.9550 (reported by my system)

Camera: Realtek USB camera

Camera hardware ID: USB\VID_3277&PID_0036&MI_00

ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys version: 1.0.12.0

Realtek camera driver tested: 10.0.22000.20414 and 10.0.22000.20276

ASUS System Control Interface: Latest version tested

Troubleshooting already performed:

Updated and downgraded the Realtek camera driver multiple times.

Installed the ASUS camera driver package, which reports successful installation but does not always change the active driver version.

Manually installed the Realtek camera driver through Device Manager using packages downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Updated and tested ASUS System Control Interface and ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys.

Confirmed that ASUS background services are running.

Tested both F10 and Fn + F10.

Restarted the laptop and tested the hotkey with the Camera app open and closed.

Uninstalled the Windows preview update KB5124010 as a troubleshooting test, but the issue persisted.

Installing Realtek driver 10.0.22000.20276 improved the two-press camera toggle behavior, but the stuck or incorrect OSD notification remains.

Request for assistance:

Could you please investigate whether this is a compatibility issue involving the Windows camera driver, ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys, System Control Interface, or the camera-toggle OSD?

I would appreciate:

The recommended stable camera driver version for my exact laptop model and Windows build.

Any known fixes or updates for the F10 camera-toggle and OSD issue.

Guidance on restoring normal camera-toggle behavior without repeatedly reinstalling drivers or reinstalling Windows.

I have already performed extensive troubleshooting, so I would appreciate any model-specific solution or escalation to your technical team. am experiencing a persistent issue with the camera toggle (F10) on my ASUS Vivobook 16X M1603QA, and I would appreciate your assistance in resolving it.

You have performed all the correct troubleshooting steps, it has been reported that a Windows update is the underlying cause of the F10 webcam key showing the incorrect status, the KB5124010 update is an optional preview update, it is not a normal update and those optional updates may contain bugs and are basically a preview update for the following monthly update, it is the most likely cause of the problem.

If you have uninstalled that update, and that did not resolve the problem, the only real option is to wait for the full October update to be released on Tuesday to see if that resolves the problem with the F10 key.
