Redeemed Office 2024 for MacBook Air to wrong Microsoft account

Bought Office 2024 from MacWorld but installed it to the wrong Microsoft account. When I launch Word on my MacBook Air I see language about Microsoft no longer supporting a 2019 license.

I would like to move the Office 2024 purchase to the correct Microsoft account and make sure both Word and Excel are working

Hello, and thank you for your question. Please take note of the information below; you may also wish to review the relevant Microsoft support link.

"You can transfer Office 2024 or Office 2021 to another computer you own; however, this process cannot be performed more than once every 90 days (except in cases of hardware failure, where the transfer may be done sooner).

Each time you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove it from the previous computer and ensure no copies remain."

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-activation-licensing/transfer-your-office-license-to-another-device-or-another-person

As the installation is still tied to the current device being read on Microsoft's end, you will need to unlink the previous installation and you can do that by going through the support team at https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ and then click on Office and then click Get home support and then type in Transfer license and then click on the blue Sign in to contact support button and login with the account that you used to purchase Office and once done you can follow the below steps.

    • Log in to this link https://account.microsoft.com/services.
    • Check if you can see Office 2024 on the Subscriptions page, to confirm that it is linked to your Microsoft account.
    • As Office 2024 can only be installed on one device at a time, if it is still installed or activated on the other device that you have returned then this will need to be uninstalled before transferring it to the new one.
    • After that, you can download, install, and activate Office 2024 on your new device.
    • There is also an instance that the phone activation at the bottom of the installation screen might appear and if it is there then you may proceed from there as instructed.

A redeemed Office purchase is tied to the Microsoft account used during redemption. There is no self-service method in the provided guidance to move that Office 2024 purchase to a different Microsoft account.

To get Word and Excel working on the MacBook Air:

    1. Confirm which Microsoft account currently has the Office 2024 purchase.
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account that was used during redemption.
      • If the product key says it was already used, that means it has already been redeemed and the key is no longer needed.
      • Install from the account’s Services and subscriptions page at account.microsoft.com.
    2. If the purchase was redeemed to the wrong Microsoft account and needs to be moved, contact Microsoft Support.
      • The provided guidance states that when Office is associated with someone else’s account, support should be contacted and proof of purchase should be available.
    3. Remove the old Mac license state before signing in again.
    4. Check whether the apps came from the Mac App Store.
      • Mac App Store Office apps are not compatible with Office 2019 licenses.
      • The Mac App Store versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint require a Microsoft 365 subscription to activate.
      • If those apps were installed from the Mac App Store, uninstall them and reinstall Office directly from the Microsoft account that holds the Office 2024 purchase.
    5. If the “Office 2019 is not supported” message still appears, it usually indicates an older Office license is still being detected on the Mac.
      • Removing the existing Office license and then signing in with the account associated with the new Office purchase is the supported cleanup path in the provided guidance.
