Dear Azure OpenAI Team,

I am an enterprise customer of Azure OpenAI, from openai, the batching requests API can allow GPT-5 and GPT-6 to be executed for batch requests, however from Azure OpenAI, the most up-to-date model is gpt-5.4 (2026-03-05), so I want to inquire about the availability and roadmap of the Azure OpenAI Batch API for GPT-5.5 and subsequent model versions.

Background

We currently use the Azure OpenAI Batch API extensively for cost-efficient, high-throughput workloads such as [e.g., large-scale content classification, offline document processing, and evaluation pipelines]. We have been closely following the GPT-5.x series and are planning to migrate a portion of these workloads to GPT-5.5 — and, in the longer term, to newer model generations — to benefit from improved quality and capability.

Our Questions

  1. Does the Azure OpenAI Batch API currently support GPT-5.5? If so, in which regions and deployment types is it available?
  2. If Batch API support for GPT-5.5 is not yet available, is it on the product roadmap? If yes, could you share an indicative timeline for when it might become available?

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to your reply.

Hi @Jipeng Zeng - The AI answer on the thread covers the batch picture correctly: gpt-5.5 has a quota row but doesn’t appear in the regional availability tables, and there’s no published timeline. One thing it doesn’t address though.

gpt-5.4 isn’t Azure’s newest model, it’s just the newest one available for Batch. The models catalogue lists GPT-5.5, GPT-5.6, GPT-6 and GPT-6.1. So it’s Batch support you’re waiting on rather than the model reaching Azure.

Azure OpenAI Batch currently includes gpt-5.5 in the batch quota table for Data Zone Batch, which indicates batch quota is defined for that model. The documented Data Zone Batch quota for gpt-5.5 is:

    • Enterprise and MCA-E: 5B
    • Default: 200M
    • Monthly credit card-based subscriptions: 50M
    • MSDN subscriptions: 90K
    • Azure for Students and free trials: N/A

For currently documented batch model availability, the batch support tables list gpt-5.4 and gpt-5.4-mini as the newest GPT-5.x models shown for both Global Batch and Data Zone Batch regions. Those tables do not show region-by-region availability entries for gpt-5.5.

For roadmap and timeline, no public release cadence or ETA is documented for when newer models become batch-enabled. Microsoft Q&A guidance states there is not a fixed public schedule for newer model versions in Batch deployments, and newer models are often introduced to standard/chat inference first, with batch support added later after validation, scaling, and regional rollout.

Supported facts for the current state:

    1. gpt-5.5 appears in the Azure OpenAI Batch quota documentation for Data Zone Batch.
    2. The published batch support region tables currently show gpt-5.4/gpt-5.4-mini as the newest GPT-5.x entries.
    3. No public indicative timeline is provided for gpt-5.5 or later batch availability by region/deployment type.
