On Windows 11, turn on microphone permissions first, then allow browser/site access:
- Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- Turn on Microphone access.
- Turn on Let apps access your microphone.
- Turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
If Google Meet is being used in Microsoft Edge, also allow the site in Edge:
- In Edge, open Settings and more > Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services > Site Permissions > All sites.
- Select the Google Meet site.
- Set Microphone to Allow. If it was blocked, change it from Block.
- Return to the Meet tab and refresh the page.
- When prompted, select Allow for microphone access.
If the microphone still is not available:
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Input, select the microphone.
- Use Start test, speak normally, then Stop test and Play to confirm Windows can hear the microphone.
- Adjust Input volume if needed.
If Windows does not detect the microphone at all:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device and select Uninstall device.
- Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
- Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically.
- Back in Device Manager, right-click Sound, video and game controllers and select Scan for hardware changes if needed, then Update driver.
Note: uninstalling audio drivers can temporarily disable sound input/output until Windows reinstalls them.
