Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Dear Peter Nixon,
Regarding the TenantAccessBlockedError (500) Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.TenantAccessBlockedException, this error generally indicates that access to Exchange Online may be restricted at the tenant level rather than being an issue with the Outlook application itself. This error usually occurs if:
- Your Microsoft 365 subscription (Exchange Online, M365 E3, etc.) was temporarily suspended due to non-payment or past-due status or you have paid the bill, but the payment has not yet propagated across Microsoft’s backend systems (can take up to 24 hours).
- The tenant status is still showing as “Disabled” or “Suspended” in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Sometimes, if you recently moved from a trial to a paid plan, the Exchange service provisioning can get stuck.
In this case, please try the following as a Global Admin:
1.Verify Subscription and Billing:
- Sign into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center at admin.microsoft.com.
- Go to Billing > Your products to check for expired/suspended statuses.
- Review Billing > Bills & payments for any overdue invoices/process payments if needed. Access may restore within hours but allow up to 24 hours.
2.If the tenant is blocked due to billing hold, you need to contact Microsoft 365 support. Please help try both options immediately to contact them as soon as possible:
Option 1: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by Phone
Since you are locked out, the most direct method is to call Microsoft's support line to raise a request for cancelling the unexpected subscription. For a full list of regional numbers, you can also visit this official page: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. The support team will assist you as soon as possible.
Option 2: Create a Temporary Account (Trial Tenant) to Submit a Support Ticket
If you have difficulty reaching an agent by phone, there is a reliable workaround. This involves creating a new, temporary Microsoft 365 account to contact the support team online.
- Sign up for a new Microsoft 365 Business trial using this link: Compare All Microsoft 365 Plans.
- Once the trial account is created, log in to its Admin Center.
- From the Admin Center, open a new Service Request.
- In the ticket description, explain that you need to cancel the subscription of your primary tenant (your.onmicrosoft.com) and that you need to speak with the Billing team.
- For reference: Get support | Microsoft Docs
Important: Please remember to cancel the trial subscription after your original account issue is resolved to avoid any future charges.
Once you can reach out to the Billing Team, you can share:
- Your administrator account email address for the tenant.
- The domain name of your tenant
- Any error messages you are receiving.
- Details about the issues you are experiencing.
- Confirmation that you are the administrator of the tenant.
I hope this helps clarify the situation. Greatly appreciate for your patience and understanding. Hope you having a nice day and really much warm regards to you as well!
