Hello!

I am trying to share a Teams Recording file with another user from OneDrive - I have given them Edit access to the recording but they are continually getting an access error:

User's image

Can someone please advise how we should now share Teams Recordings now that Clipchamp has taken over Stream?

    Hi @Mcintosh, Rebecca

To ensure I fully understand your situation and provide the most effective assistance, I’ll need a few additional details, such as:

Does the link the recipient opens start with clipchamp.com or sharepoint.com?

Is the item being shared a.mp4 recording file or a Clipchamp project?

Is the recipient a user within your organization or an external guest?

From the error message and your description, this appears to be a Clipchamp access issue rather than a OneDrive permission issue. As far as I know, Teams recordings are stored as regular.mp4 files in OneDrive or SharePoint, while Clipchamp serves as the editing tool. Granting access to the recording file does not automatically grant access to a Clipchamp project. If the recipient is opening a Clipchamp project rather than the recording itself, they may encounter the "You don't have access to this project" message.

If you edited the recording in Clipchamp, please export the edited video as a new.mp4 file, save it to OneDrive, and then share the exported file instead of the Clipchamp project.

Please give this a try and let me know the results. Any update would be greatly appreciated.

A Teams recording is still shared from OneDrive or SharePoint, because the recording is stored there as a standard file. Clipchamp is the playback and video experience, but access is controlled by the OneDrive/SharePoint permissions on the recording.

    Try this end-to-end path:

    1. Open OneDrive and go to My files.
    2. Find the recording file.
    3. Select More actions and then Manage access.
    4. In Manage access, confirm the affected user is explicitly listed with the intended permission.
    5. If needed, remove the existing share and reshare it:
      • Select Share to add the user again, or
      • Select Copy link and create a new link.
    6. Prefer sharing to a signed-in internal user. For recordings, the recommended option is People in your organization.

Important permission behavior for Teams recordings:

    • For a 1:1 internal call, the recording is saved in the OneDrive account of the person who started the recording.
    • That person is the owner and has full permissions.
    • The other participant has read-only access, but no sharing or download permissions.

If the recipient is opening the recording in the Clipchamp page and seeing “You don’t currently have permission to view this project”, that indicates the OneDrive/SharePoint access on the underlying file or folder is not sufficient for that user. In that case:

    1. Open the recording from OneDrive rather than relying on the old shared link.
    2. Use Manage access to verify the user still appears there.
    3. Create a fresh share using Share or Copy link.
    4. Have the recipient open the new link while signed in with the same organizational account that was granted access.

If this is a Teams meeting recording and the goal is only to let someone watch or work with the video, sharing the recording file from OneDrive is the correct method. Clipchamp has not replaced OneDrive/SharePoint permissions for recordings.
