We are experiencing issues trying to call Azure OpenAI gpt-6-luna in ModernFoundry, using the Azure Foundry SDK.

We are receiving the following error:

HTTP 500 (server_error: server_error) The server had an error processing your request. Sorry about that! You can retry your request, or contact us through an Azure support request at: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2213926 if you keep seeing this error. (Please include the request ID 79d4fb65-7435-4ed2-8f1a-d60b8002a3fa in your email.)

We have an example of this on 2026-10-02 16:26:21.757, against deployment name “gpt-6-luna” (no responseID returned).

Hi Mark,

While Microsoft investigates, I would compare a minimal request against the request that fails:

  1. Use the same deployment with a short text-only prompt, without tools, attachments, or optional parameters.
  2. Test that prompt in the Foundry playground as well as your SDK application.
  3. Record whether failures are consistent or intermittent in each path.

If the minimal request fails in both places, that strengthens the evidence for a deployment/service issue. If it succeeds, add the original request features back individually to identify what triggers the failure.

Microsoft recommends exponential backoff for HTTP 500/503 errors. Keep retries bounded and check whether your SDK already retries automatically before adding another retry layer.

The request ID already included in your error is useful for support, even without a response ID. Include the deployment region, SDK package/version, endpoint/API used, and timestamp timezone with your reproduction details.

Does the minimal text-only request also fail in the playground?

    Hello Mark,

    Thank you for reaching out.

An HTTP 500 (server_error) indicates that the request encountered an error while being processed. Since you are seeing this while calling the gpt-6-luna deployment through the Azure Foundry SDK, I would recommend first checking whether the behavior is reproducible with a minimal request.

    Please try the following:

    • Send a simple text-only request to the same deployment without tools, attachments, or additional optional parameters.
    • Test the same request directly from the Microsoft Foundry playground and compare the behavior with the SDK request.
    • Retry the request if the HTTP 500 error occurs intermittently.
    • If the issue continues, please capture the request ID, timestamp with timezone, deployment region, SDK package/version, and endpoint/API being used.

If the same minimal request consistently fails both in the playground and through the SDK, Please let us know.

Hope this helps. Please let us know the results of the minimal-request and playground tests.

    Thankyou!
