Hi Silvia,

Based on the information available, it is possible to create custom Power BI reports and surface them within Dynamics 365. However, the implementation approach depends on the specific Dynamics 365 application you are using and the Analytics experience that you would like to customize.

For example:

In Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, custom reports can be developed in Power BI Desktop and added as .pbix resources. A developer can then extend an existing workspace, create or modify an Analytics tab, and embed the Power BI report within that workspace.

For your reference: Add analytics to workspaces by using Power BI Embedded - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365

If you only need to modify an existing embedded analytical report in Finance and Operations, users with the System report editor security role can customize the report canvas. Please note that this approach modifies the report experience for all users in the environment and does not allow changes to the underlying dataset definitions.

For additional information: Customize embedded reports in analytical workspaces - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365

In Dynamics 365 Customer Service or Dynamics 365 Contact Center standalone, Microsoft offers a dedicated customization framework that allows administrators to extend data models, add custom KPIs and metrics, integrate Dataverse entities or additional data sources, and publish customized reports back into Dynamics 365 through Microsoft Fabric workspaces.

For your convenience, please refer to the following: Customize data models of historical and real-time analytics reports

For Customer Service analytics reports, users with the Analytics Report Author role can also make visual-level customizations, such as changing visualizations, adding available metrics, applying filters, and creating new report layouts.

As a point of reference: Customize visual display

Because your question falls at the intersection of Dynamics 365 and Power BI customization, I would also recommend posting your scenario in the Power BI Community Forum. The community includes many Power BI experts and Dynamics administrators who can provide implementation guidance, best practices, and real-world examples for embedding and extending Power BI reports within Dynamics 365.

If possible, please include which Dynamics 365 application you are migrating to (such as Finance and Operations, Sales, Customer Service, or another workload), as that will help the community provide more targeted recommendations.

I hope this information helps point you in the right direction. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.

Kind regards.

For Dynamics, the supported approach depends on where the analytics experience is hosted:

    1. Create the Power BI report outside Dynamics
      • Use Power BI Desktop to build custom reports.
      • If the data is in Microsoft Dataverse, use the Dataverse connector to connect directly to the data, create the report, and publish it to Power BI.
      • For Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations scenarios, ready-made reports can be modified in PowerBI.com, extended in Power BI Desktop, or new reports can be created.
    2. Publish the report/dashboard to Power BI
      • Reports created in Power BI can be published and then used in dashboards.
      • In the Power BI service, dashboards are created by pinning visualizations from a report.
      • Dashboards are a feature of the Power BI service, not Power BI Desktop.
    3. Embed or surface the content in Dynamics
      • In model-driven apps, Power BI dashboards can be added to personal dashboards.
      • Required prerequisites for that scenario:
        • Enable Power BI visualizations in Advanced Settings > System > Administration > Reports > Embed Power BI visuals.
        • Have a Power BI account and access to at least one Power BI dashboard.
        • Enable third-party cookies in the browser.
      • To add a Power BI dashboard in a model-driven app:
        1. Open the app and go to Dashboards.
        2. Select New > Power BI Dashboard.
        3. In Power BI Dashboard Properties, select the workspace and the Power BI dashboard to embed.
        4. Select Save.
    4. If the goal is custom reports in the Dynamics analytics area
      • For Dynamics 365 Customer Service / Contact Center standalone, custom analytics reports are supported by customizing the Power BI data models.
      • The documented flow is:
        1. Enable data model customization in Copilot Service admin center.
        2. Select a Microsoft Fabric workspace.
        3. Provision the data models and a copy of the reports.
        4. Grant permissions for semantic models and reports.
        5. Embed the customized reports back into Dynamics 365.
      • This supports extending out-of-box models, adding custom metrics/KPIs, bringing in custom entities from Dataverse or other sources, publishing to a Fabric workspace, and embedding the customized reports back into the app.
    5. If the goal is a standard Power BI dashboard from a report
      • Open the report in the Power BI service and select Edit.
      • Hover over a visualization and select the pin icon.
      • Choose Existing dashboard or New dashboard.
      • Select Pin. Power BI creates the dashboard in the current workspace.

A practical path for a Dynamics migration is:

    • Build the custom report in Power BI Desktop against Dataverse or the relevant Dynamics data source.
    • Publish it to Power BI service.
    • Create a dashboard there by pinning report visuals.
    • Embed that dashboard or report into the Dynamics app, or for Customer Service analytics, use the documented customization flow to publish to a Fabric workspace and embed it back into Dynamics.
