Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Welcome Graham Marriott,
Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data. Thanks for the detailed post. Getting email set up on more than one device can be frustrating, and I'm glad the laptop sign-in with PIN works.
Please try the step below:
Step 1: Make the address she signs in with the primary alias
- Sign in to her account at https://account.live.com/names/manage.
- Next to the Outlook.com address she signs in with, select "Make primary" if it isn't already the primary alias.
Step 2: Remove the address added by mistake
- On the same page, select "Remove" next to the Outlook.com address added by mistake. Choose Add email, or select Remove next to an existing address.
You can't remove the primary alias, so do Step 1 first. Once the address is removed, emails sent to it won't reach her any more. Before you remove it, make sure nothing important is still being sent to that address.
Step 3: Add her Virgin Media email as a backup email for security codes
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/security and select Manage how I sign in (on some screens this is called Advanced security options).
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify and choose Email a code
- Enter her Virgin Media email address, then type in the code Microsoft sends to that inbox to confirm it.
Step 4: Remove the AOL address
- Only do this after the Virgin Media address is confirmed. On the same security page, find the AOL address, expand it and select Remove
Looking forward to your update.
