    Hello,

I've noticed several other users reporting the same issue in this forum over the past few days. However, I haven't seen any official acknowledgment from Microsoft yet, so this appears to be an emerging issue rather than an isolated case.

Based on user reports, switching to the Beta channel (version 16.116, build 26102843) appears to resolve the issue. However, please note that this is an unofficial workaround, not a confirmed fix from Microsoft. Beta builds may also introduce other issues.

Another workaround reported by other user is

First, quit Excel completely. Then reopen Excel. Very important - don't open any workbook, not even a blank one. Just open the app itself.

Go to Help > Clear Application Data > clear Experimental Features.

    Once done, restart Excel.

    ========================

I also strongly encourage you to report this issue directly through Excel's Help > Feedback feature to make engineer team aware of this.

    Hi @Sherley Lau

First, please feel free to check out the AI answer

Office 2021 does not automatically update an existing PivotTable every time a new entry is added. However, a manual refresh should still work.

When you select the PivotTable and choose PivotTable Analyze > Refresh, does nothing change, or do you receive an error message?

    Also, please confirm:

    • Is the new entry added within the existing source data?
    • Is the source a worksheet range, an Excel table, or an external connection?
    • Does the new entry appear if you create a new PivotTable from the same data?

These details will help determine whether the issue is with the PivotTable cache, the workbook, or the source data.

Common causes in Excel/Office 2021 are:

    1. The PivotTable was not actually refreshed.
      • Select any cell in the PivotTable.
      • Go to PivotTable Analyze > Refresh.
      • If there are multiple PivotTables, use Refresh All.
    2. The new rows were added outside the original source range.
      • If the PivotTable is based on a normal cell range, newly entered rows are not always included automatically.
      • Using an Excel Table as the source is more reliable because rows added to a table are included when the PivotTable is refreshed.
    3. Auto Refresh is turned off.
      • Select the PivotTable.
      • Go to PivotTable Analyze > Auto Refresh to turn it on.
      • Or go to PivotTable Analyze > Options > Data and check Automatically refresh when the data source changes.
      • This setting is per data source, so it affects all PivotTables connected to that source.
    4. The source data needs to be changed.
      • If the source range or table is no longer correct, go to PivotTable Analyze > Change Data Source and verify the current table or range.
    5. The PivotTable is connected to external data or a data model.
      • If so, refresh reruns the original query or connection.
      • Refresh can fail if the source file/database moved, was renamed, or if a table or column was removed or renamed.
      • In Power Pivot, errors can also happen if permissions were lost.
    6. Filters may hide the new data.
      • If the PivotTable refreshes but still looks old, clear and reapply filters, especially date filters.

    A practical fix path:

    1. Click inside the PivotTable and select PivotTable Analyze > Refresh.
    2. If the new data still does not appear, check whether the source data is an Excel Table.
    3. If it is not, use PivotTable Analyze > Change Data Source and expand the range to include the new rows.
    4. Turn on Auto Refresh if needed.
    5. If the PivotTable uses external data, check that the connection source still exists and has not been renamed.

    1. Check your data source : If the data source for the Pivot Table changed or isn’t correctly connected, refreshing can cause issues. Go to PivotTable Analyze > Change Data Source and confirm the range or table name is still valid after your recent data load.
    2. Preserve formatting and layout If you apply formatting while rows or columns are hidden by filters or collapsed, or if you later add/remove fields, refreshing can expose new cells and reset everything to default. To help prevent this: Select any cell in your Pivot Table and right-click > PivotTable Options . In the Layout & Format tab: Check Preserve cell formatting on update (if already checked, uncheck and recheck) Optional: To prevent column widths from changing, also uncheck the Autofit column widths on update box. Click OK to apply. Tip: Make sure the table is fully expanded and unfiltered before applying formatting.
    3. Excel updates : Make sure your version of Excel is up to date, as outdated versions can sometimes contribute to unexpected behavior. You can do this by going to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now . I hope my suggestions could help. Let me know how things go or if you need further support!
