    Hello Christopher Foxley,

I understand how frustrating it must be to have emails arrive unpredictably, especially when the messages are already visible in webmail but do not appear promptly in New Outlook.

The fact that the emails appear in webmail suggests that they are reaching your mailbox, but New Outlook may not be refreshing or displaying them correctly. Could you confirm which email service is connected to New Outlook, such as Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, or another provider, and whether the delay affects both incoming and outgoing messages?

In the meantime, please completely close and reopen New Outlook, then check Settings > General > About Outlook to confirm that the app is up to date. You can also go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (new) > Advanced options > Repair.

If the issue continues, please report it through Help > Support in New Outlook and include the approximate time a test email appeared in webmail and when it eventually appeared in the Outlook app. This information may help the support team investigate the synchronization delay.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors cannot access your account, synchronization logs, or Microsoft’s back-end systems.

I hope the issue is resolved soon and that your emails begin arriving normally again. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Because the missing messages are already present in IONOS webmail, use IONOS webmail or Classic Outlook temporarily, then reconnect the IONOS account in New Outlook to rebuild its stalled synchronization.

    Restore the IONOS connection

    1. Continue using IONOS webmail for time-sensitive messages.
The messages have reached your IONOS mailbox; New Outlook is failing to display them promptly.
    2. In New Outlook, open View → View settings → Accounts → Your accounts.
    3. Find the IONOS account, select Manage, and check whether Outlook requests attention or a new sign-in.
    4. If it does not recover, select Remove → Remove from this device only.
Do not choose Remove from all devices: Microsoft warns that this can remove Microsoft Cloud data across Outlook clients, including items that exist only there.^1^
    5. Close and reopen New Outlook, then add the IONOS account again using the credentials and server settings supplied by IONOS.
    6. If Outlook asks for an app password, create one through the security settings in IONOS webmail and use that instead of the normal password. Some IMAP accounts require an app password.^1^

New Outlook supports third-party IMAP and POP accounts, but they do not have the same manual View → Sync capability as Microsoft-hosted accounts.^2^

Use Classic Outlook if delays continue

A closely matching New Outlook case—third-party mail arriving normally in webmail but not synchronizing in New Outlook—was worked around by switching to Classic Outlook.^3^

    If Classic Outlook is installed:

    1. Open Start, search for Outlook (classic), and launch it.
    2. Add the IONOS account using the IONOS IMAP settings.
    3. Confirm that recent messages download and send a test message.
    4. Use only one Outlook version for normal mail handling until New Outlook synchronizes reliably.

If Classic Outlook receives messages immediately, that isolates the problem to New Outlook’s connection rather than IONOS delivery.

Check whether Microsoft currently has an outage

Check Microsoft’s public service-health page separately from the account troubleshooting.^4^

The published New Outlook known-issues list does not currently identify a general third-party IMAP receiving-delay incident matching this symptom.^5^ Microsoft previously documented a sending-delay issue involving signature add-ins and inline images, but that applies when messages remain in the Outbox, not when IONOS messages exist in webmail but appear late in Outlook.^6^

If reconnecting the account and testing Classic Outlook do not resolve it, contact IONOS and ask them to verify the current IMAP/SMTP server names, ports, encryption method, and authentication requirements for the account.
