Until recently in Outlook I could Block Sender on my Android phone. Now that option is greyed out as is the option to view in light mode and Schedule with Copilot

    Hi @Andrew Heggie

I’m sorry that several options in Outlook for Android have suddenly become unavailable.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas only.

You may refer to the steps provided in the AI-generated answer, particularly the workaround for blocking the sender. In addition, since multiple unrelated options are greyed out at the same time, please check the Google Play Store for any available Outlook updates and restart your phone.

You can also open Android Settings > Apps > Outlook > Storage > Clear cache. This will not remove messages stored in your mailbox.

If the issue continues, please check whether these options are unavailable for all messages and all accounts added to Outlook, or only for one specific account. You may then contact the Outlook mobile support team through Outlook > Settings > Help & Feedback > Contact Support.

Open the unwanted message in Outlook for Android and use ⋮ → Report Junk → Block Sender; this is the currently documented mobile path even when the separate Block Sender command appears greyed out.^1^

    Block the sender

    1. Open an actual message from the sender—not merely the conversation list.
    2. Tap ⋮ in the upper-right corner.
    3. Select Report Junk.
    4. Select Block Sender.

Future messages from an address on the blocked-senders list are directed to Junk Email.^2^

If Block Sender remains disabled for that particular message, add the address through Outlook on the web instead:

    1. Sign in to Outlook on the web with the same mailbox.
    2. Open Settings → Mail → Junk email.
    3. Under Blocked senders, enter the full email address and select Add.
    4. Select Save.^3^

Why the other greyed-out items are separate

The three controls do not necessarily share one fault:

    • Schedule with Copilot is intended for an email conversation. On mobile, open a conversation and select More options → Schedule with Copilot. Copilot then builds a meeting invitation from that thread.^4^ Availability can also depend on the signed-in account, assigned Copilot capabilities, and organizational policy.
    • View in light mode is theme-related rather than a junk-mail setting. Outlook for Android’s documented theme control is under Settings → Preferences → Dark Theme. Turn off Dark Theme and Set by Battery Saver if the entire app should remain light.^5^ A message-specific light-view command can remain unavailable on screens or content that Outlook does not control.
    • Block Sender depends on having a blockable sender associated with the currently opened message. Use the Report Junk route above rather than the disabled shortcut.

If unrelated commands remain disabled everywhere

This may indicate stale or incomplete account data after an app update. Try the non-destructive recovery path:

    1. Force-close Outlook and reopen it.
    2. If unchanged, open Outlook → Settings → select the affected email account → Reset Account.
    3. Allow the mailbox to resynchronize, then test the commands from a newly received message.

Microsoft documents Reset Account as the next step when force-closing does not correct incomplete or incorrect mobile-app data.^6^

If this affects every message after the reset, report it from Outlook’s in-app Help/Support and include:

    • Outlook app version
    • Android version
    • Mailbox type: Outlook.com, Microsoft 365/Exchange, Gmail, or another provider
    • Whether the same sender can be blocked through Outlook on the web
    • A screenshot showing the disabled commands

Microsoft’s current Outlook Mobile known-issues page does not list this combination of disabled Android controls as an acknowledged issue.^7^
