Hello Microsoft Community,

I am a B.Tech student at GNI, and I previously had access to the Azure for Students offer using my college email address.

My issue:

College email: [******@gniindia.org]

Sign-in account: My existing Outlook/Microsoft account

Previous status: I had successfully activated Azure for Students earlier.

Current issue: My previous subscription no longer appears in the Azure Portal.

Error message: “You are not eligible to renew Azure for Students. Please try again shortly or contact us.”

I am still a student and would like to renew my existing Azure for Students benefits. However, the system is not allowing me to renew, and my previous subscription is no longer visible.

I have already tried signing in with my existing Microsoft account, but the issue persists.

Could someone from Microsoft please explain why my renewal is blocked and guide me on how to restore my eligibility? If necessary, I can provide proof of enrollment or a student ID through an appropriate private support channel.

Thank you for your help.

Renewal is available only after the original 12-month benefit period ends; if that anniversary has passed, sign up for Azure for Students again with the Microsoft identity used for the original activation and complete academic verification with the active college email.^1^

    1. Determine whether renewal is available yet

Azure for Students provides $100 credit for 12 months and permits annual renewal while you remain an eligible full-time student at an accredited, degree-granting institution. The offer is limited to one subscription per eligible customer.^2^

    • If 12 months have passed: Open the Azure for Students offer page, select Start free, use the identity associated with the original activation, and reverify through the college email.
    • If 12 months have not passed: Early renewal is unavailable, even if the $100 credit was exhausted. Wait until the anniversary to renew, or upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go if immediate access to Azure services is required.^1^
    • Search the original Microsoft account’s email for the activation or renewal message to establish the anniversary date. Microsoft normally sends a renewal notice shortly before it.^3^

    2. Check whether the old subscription is hidden in another directory

Because the subscription no longer appears, check the Azure directory context rather than repeating the same sign-in:

    1. In the Azure portal, select the account icon at the upper right.
    2. Select Switch directory.
    3. Open each directory associated with the account.
    4. In each directory, go to Subscriptions and look for the old Azure for Students subscription.

A subscription can be absent from the displayed list when the wrong Microsoft Entra directory is selected.^4^

    If found, record:

    • Subscription name and ID
    • Status, such as Disabled or Canceled
    • Original activation or credit-expiration date

The subscription ID appears under Azure portal → Subscriptions → subscription name → Essentials.^5^

    3. If the subscription is disabled or canceled

The appropriate action depends on its status:

    • Credit exhausted before the anniversary: The subscription is disabled. Upgrade it to Pay-As-You-Go for immediate continued use, or wait for the annual renewal window.
    • Credit expired at 12 months: Attempt annual renewal by signing up for the student offer again. Pay-As-You-Go is the alternative if renewal remains unavailable.
    • Accidentally canceled: Contact Azure Support to request reactivation. Reactivation retains only the remaining credit and the original 12-month period; it does not start a new student benefit period.^6^

Upgrading to Pay-As-You-Go introduces billable usage, so review active resources before proceeding.

    4. Request a private eligibility review

If the anniversary has passed, the academic email remains active, and reverification still returns “You are not eligible to renew,” this cannot be corrected through Microsoft Community. Create an Azure Support request using the public support form linked from the disabled-subscription guidance.^6^

Select the closest available Subscription management / Azure for Students / Billing category and request:

Please review my Azure for Students renewal eligibility and check whether the previous redemption or eligibility record is associated with a different Microsoft identity or tenant.

Provide privately in the support request—not in this public thread:

    • Original subscription ID, if available
    • Approximate activation date
    • College email domain and proof of current enrollment
    • Screenshot of the complete error
    • Directories checked in the portal
    • The Microsoft identity used for the original activation

A previous redemption record associated with another identity requires Microsoft’s backend review and cannot be changed from the Azure portal or Community forum.^7^
