So am unable to listen to music or other sound.

How can I unmute?

Thanks,

Alan

Try these Windows 11 steps in order:

    1. Check the selected output device
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Output, make sure the correct device is selected.
      • Make sure the volume is not muted and the slider is turned up.
    2. Check Volume mixer
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer.
      • Make sure System and the affected app are turned up.
      • Make sure the app is not muted.
    3. Turn off audio enhancements
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Output, select the audio device being used.
      • Under Advanced settings, set Audio enhancements to Off.
    4. Set the default playback device
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Select More sound settings > Playback.
      • Right-click the correct speaker or headphone device and select Set as default.
    5. Run the audio troubleshooter
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • In the Audio section, select Run.
    6. If sound is still stuck on mute, update or reinstall the audio driver
      • Select Start, type Device Manager, and open it.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
      • Restart the PC.
      • If the problem continues, uninstall the driver and reinstall it from the device manufacturer’s website.

If wired headphones or external speakers are connected, also try disconnecting them, because speakers may not work while headphones are plugged in.
