Hello Microsoft Support Team,

I urgently need assistance recovering access to an MSI laptop running Windows 11.

My priority is to restore access to the existing Windows user account without losing any personal files, installed applications, or settings.

Problem

After a Windows update, Windows reported that my PIN was no longer available.

The laptop now displays only a "Sign in" button for the existing Microsoft account. There is no option to enter the Microsoft account password, even though I know the correct password.

Clicking "Sign in" opens a Microsoft account verification window requesting an email security code.

However, the verification email never arrives, even though the request appears to proceed successfully.

The same verification email problem occurs when attempting to sign in to the Microsoft account using another device.

Troubleshooting already performed

  1. Reset and removed the Windows Hello PIN data.

Restored Windows to an earlier restore point (October 14, 2026).

Uninstalled the latest Windows quality update.

Tried Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.

Connected the laptop directly via Ethernet.

Changed DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion from 2 to 0 using the offline Windows registry.

Ran offline SFC — no integrity violations found.

Ran DISM ScanHealth — no component store corruption found.

Checked the Gmail inbox, spam, trash, and filters. No Microsoft verification messages were found.

Used the Microsoft Account Sign-in Helper, which reported no account problems.

None of these steps resolved the issue.

Additional information

This laptop has only one Windows user account.

The Microsoft account password is known.

No alternative sign-in method, passkey, or security key is available.

No other device has an active session for the affected Microsoft account.

The Microsoft verification window displays a masked Gmail recovery address.

The original files and installed applications must be preserved.

Assistance requested

How can I restore the Microsoft account password sign-in option on the existing Windows installation without resetting Windows or removing installed applications?

Could this behavior be related to a Windows credential provider or Microsoft account authentication issue?

How can the verification email delivery failure be investigated or escalated when authentication codes never arrive?

Is there an officially supported recovery procedure for this situation that preserves the existing Windows installation, user profile, applications, and files?

I would greatly appreciate troubleshooting instructions that take into account the recovery steps already completed.
