Microsoft Word and Excel show "Your organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you"

I am experiencing the following error in both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel:

"Your organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you. For more info, please contact your help desk."

The issue is not limited to one Office application; it occurs in both Word and Excel. The computer is a personal device and is not managed by an organization. I am using Microsoft 365 on Windows.

I have already tried restarting the applications and the computer, but the issue continues to occur. I would like to know the cause of this problem and the recommended steps to resolve it.

    Hi Mohamed,

    If that error occurs when clicking on hyperlinks in Word, Excel or Outlook, the http/html association settings might be the problem.

    Repair or reinstall your default web browser.

    If that doesn't help, try this:

    • Open Settings → Apps → Default apps.
    • Find the section labeled "Reset all default apps"
    • Click Reset.
