Because the blocked sign-in is on the Microsoft/Xbox account, the recovery path is to regain access to that Microsoft account first.
- Try another verification method on the sign-in screen if one is available.
- If the phone number is blocked or unavailable, use a different method already connected to the account.
- If repeated attempts were made, stop retrying for now. Too many requests can trigger a temporary block.
- Try from a different network or device.
- Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use a different Wi‑Fi network.
- If possible, try a different device/browser. Microsoft notes that blocks can be tied to the current environment.
- Wait before trying again.
- A temporary verification block can clear after 24 hours.
- If it does not, wait longer, up to 1 week, and avoid repeated attempts because that can reset the time lock.
- If the old phone number is no longer accessible, replace the security information.
- When prompted for a verification code, choose I don't have any of these and follow the instructions to replace the security info.
- If sign-in still fails, use the Microsoft account recovery flow.
- Start with the Sign-in Helper tool.
- If the password or verification path still cannot be completed, review Help with the Microsoft account recovery form and submit the recovery request.
- Verify the sign-in details carefully.
- Confirm the Microsoft account is being entered with the correct domain, such as the right Outlook/Hotmail/Live country domain.
- Check for spelling differences in the account name.
- If another alias or phone number exists on the account, try that instead.
- If access is restored, remove the old verification method and add a current one.
- Go to Security settings.
- Remove outdated phone/email methods.
- Microsoft may require adding new security information before the old one can be removed.
Important limitation: Microsoft support agents cannot send password reset links or directly change account details. If self-service recovery does not succeed, use Contact Microsoft Support for the available support path.
For the Fortnite/PS5 part, Microsoft can only help with the Microsoft/Xbox account sign-in. Linking the Fortnite profile itself is handled through Epic once the Xbox account can be accessed again.
