Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Microsoft Editor cannot be enabled in a standalone, perpetual copy of classic Outlook 2024; that edition supports Spelling & Grammar, while the Editor pane in classic Outlook is available with Outlook for Microsoft 365.^1^
Enable Outlook 2024’s built-in proofing
- Open classic Outlook.
- Select File → Options → Mail.
- Under Compose messages, enable Always check spelling before sending.
- Select OK.
When you send a message, Outlook will run its spelling check first. To check while composing, select Review → Spelling & Grammar.^1^
For AutoCorrect:
- Go to File → Options → Mail.
- Select Editor Options.
- Select Proofing → AutoCorrect Options.
- On the AutoCorrect tab, enable Replace text as you type and configure the desired options.^2^
Despite the Editor Options button name, this settings page configures traditional proofing and AutoCorrect; it does not add the Microsoft Editor pane to perpetual Outlook 2024.
If the full Microsoft Editor is required
The supported options are:
- Replace the perpetual Outlook 2024 installation with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription that includes desktop Outlook. In classic Outlook for Microsoft 365, open a draft and select Editor on the classic ribbon—or … → Editor on the simplified ribbon.^1^
- Use new Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, or Outlook.com, where Editor is integrated into message composition. This is a different Outlook client rather than a feature that can be installed into standalone classic Outlook 2024.^1^
Office 2024 is a one-time-purchase product containing only a subset of Microsoft 365 features and remains locked to its released feature set; Microsoft 365 continues receiving intelligent and cloud-backed capabilities.^3^
