Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Good day Toby,
Just to gently clarify before going any further, this forum is separate from Microsoft Support. I don’t have the ability to access or investigate individual accounts or escalate the issue directly Microsoft Support because this is a user‑to‑user support forum.
Based on your description, it sounds like the old email address was used as the sign in name for a personal Microsoft account that is associated with the Office licenses.
1/ If you can no longer receive verification codes through the registered email address or phone number, please try the following:
- Open the account recovery form: https://account.live.com/acsr
- Enter an email address that you can access today. Microsoft will use that address to contact you about the recovery request.
- Complete the form from a device and location that were previously used to access the account, if available.
- Provide as much account history as possible, including previous passwords, purchase information, billing details, Office products, or other Microsoft services linked to the account.
Microsoft will review the information and send the result to the contact email you provide. If the request isn't approved, you can review the details and submit another recovery attempt.
Additional information is available in the following resources:
Account recovery unsuccessful | Microsoft Support
Help with the Microsoft account recovery form | Microsoft Support
Alternatively, you may visit Contact - Microsoft Support. Enter keywords related to your issue, such as "Need account recovery", then select Ask our Support Assistant and follow the prompts that best match your situation.
If the issue persists after completing all suggested troubleshooting steps, you will be given the option to contact a support representative. Select Contact Support, choose the category that most closely matches your issue and then select Chat with a support agent in your web browser.
2/ If the old email address was used by a former employee to create or manage your company's Microsoft 365 tenant:
- The administrator account is often different from that email address. In many cases, the tenant includes an administrative account that uses the organization's default Microsoft 365 domain format, such as ******@company.onmicrosoft.com.
Please let me know if this matches your situation. The recovery path for a personal Microsoft account is different from the recovery path for a Microsoft 365 work or school account, and the next steps depend on whether other administrators still have access to the organization.
I wish I could help more directly, but as a fellow user in this community, providing these steps is the best support I can offer. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
