Setting up future meetings or classes using Teams calendar tools
Create the PM class as a brand-new recurring meeting—not by editing, copying, forwarding, or reusing the existing invitation—so Teams generates a new meeting ID, passcode, and join link.
Re-create the PM series
- Open Microsoft Teams → Calendar → New meeting.
- Enter a distinct title, such as Class Name – PM Session.
- Set the PM date and time.
- Select Does not repeat, then choose the required daily, weekly, or custom recurrence.
- Add the PM students or the appropriate class channel.
- Re-enter the description and other details manually. Do not copy the old invitation body, because it may contain and reuse the old Teams join link.
- Select Send. Teams creates the new meeting and adds it to the students’ calendars.^1^
- Open the new PM meeting from the calendar and compare its meeting ID and passcode with the AM meeting. They should now be different.
Teams does not provide a supported “change meeting ID” control for an existing meeting. Editing, copying, or reusing an existing meeting can retain its Teams link; a separately created meeting is required for a unique identity.^2^
Remove the old PM series
After confirming the replacement invitation reached the PM students:
- Open the old PM meeting series as the organizer.
- Cancel the entire old PM series and send the cancellation.
- Keep the AM series unchanged.
Cancelling the obsolete series prevents students from seeing two PM appointments or joining through the shared credentials. Only the meeting organizer can send an update or cancellation to all attendees.^3^
If the AM and PM times are actually occurrences within one recurring series, sharing a meeting ID is expected: recurring Teams meetings use the same join identity across their occurrences. Separate AM and PM credentials require two independently created recurring series.^4^
