    Hello Simran Priya,

I noticed that your question was posted under the Business category. Could you please confirm whether the affected account is a work account provided and managed by an organization, such as an address ending in company.com or onmicrosoft.com, or a personal account, such as Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, or Gmail.com?

This information is important because the available licensing, activation, and troubleshooting options depend on the account type.

To better understand the issue, could you also confirm the following?

    • What is the exact error message displayed in the Word desktop application?
    • Could you share a full screenshot after hiding the file name, email address, organization details, and any other sensitive information?
    • Does the issue affect only one file or all Word documents?
    • Is the affected file stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, or on the local computer?
    • Is Word desktop signed in with the same account that is being used successfully in Word for the web?
    • Can the user create a new blank document in Word desktop, edit it, and save it successfully?

As a test, please create a new blank document in Word desktop, enter some text, and try to save it. If the new document cannot be edited or saved either, the issue is more closely related to licensing or activation. If the blank document works correctly, the original file may be locked, read-only, protected, or affected by its current permissions.

Please share the account type, screenshot, file location, and test result so I can narrow down the cause and provide more relevant guidance.

    Kind regards,
