Azure Bastion Cost Not Showing in Cost Management and No Update from Support Request

Hello Community,

I am experiencing an issue with Azure Bastion billing.

I have an Azure Bastion resource deployed and it has been running successfully. However, I am unable to see the associated Bastion costs properly reflected in Azure Cost Management.

To investigate the issue, I opened a Microsoft Azure Billing Support request:

Support Request ID: 2610130030000405

At this point, I have not yet received any meaningful update or resolution from the support team, so I am reaching out to the community to see if anyone has experienced a similar issue.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone seen Azure Bastion usage not appearing correctly in Cost Management?
  2. Is there any known delay for Bastion charges to appear in cost reports?
  3. Are there specific reports, filters, or billing views that should be checked to verify Bastion charges?
  4. Has anyone encountered a similar issue and found a resolution?

Any guidance or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Hitesh, here are some things worth checking for each of your questions:

1 . Delay in Cost Management: Usage data in Cost Management is not real-time. New or recently changed resources can take several hours, and sometimes up to 24-48 hours, to show up. Since Bastion is billed per hour from the moment it’s deployed (regardless of whether anyone is connected), the cost should eventually appear, but the first charges can lag.

    2. What to check in Cost Management:

    • Scope: make sure you’re viewing the right subscription or resource group in Cost analysis. Costs viewed at a different scope won’t show up.
    • Grouping: group by Service name or Meter and look for “Azure Bastion”. Outbound data transfer from Bastion appears under bandwidth, and the Standard public IP it uses appears under Virtual Network, so some related costs show up in different rows.
    • Filters: clear any Charge type, Resource group, Tag or Date filters. A narrow date range is a common reason costs look missing.
    • View: compare Actual cost and Amortized cost.
    • Credits: if you use free credits or a sponsorship, the charge can show as zero on the bill even though usage is recorded.
    • Developer SKU: if the Bastion uses the Developer SKU, it has no hourly charge, so there may be nothing to show.

    3. Verify independently: go to Cost Management + Billing > Invoices (or Usage + charges) and download the usage details CSV. Filter by the Bastion’s resource ID. If the usage is in the file but not in Cost analysis, it’s a display or scope problem. If it’s in neither, that supports escalating the billing ticket.

Also check that you have the right permissions (for example Cost Management Reader), and, if the subscription is through a partner (CSP), the partner may control cost visibility.

For the support request, you can reply in the ticket with the above findings, or raise the severity if it’s blocking, so it gets a faster response. If you share which SKU you’re using and what you see in Cost analysis, others here may be able to narrow it down.
