    1

    Open Word.

At the top right of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (not shut down) your PC, then log back into Office, is your subscription then recognized correctly and does that remove the notification.

    2

If not, log into your Microsoft account on this link, check the expiry date listed on your subscription, is that listed correctly.

    https://account.microsoft.com/services/

If not, go to the Billing section, is it indicated your payment has been processed correctly.

A monthly Microsoft 365 charge and an in-app message asking for payment usually means one of these situations:

    1. The recent charge was a catch-up payment, but the subscription is still past due or suspended. Microsoft may retry a previously declined payment until it succeeds, so two payments can appear close together even when they are not duplicate charges.
    2. The payment method on the subscription has an error. The Office message "ACCOUNT NOTICE. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription and need your help to fix it." is often triggered by a subscription payment problem, such as an expired or canceled card.
    3. There may be another subscription or another Microsoft account using the same card. Multiple accounts or family members using the same payment method can make it look like a duplicate charge.

    To check and fix it:

    1. Check the subscription status
      • Go to Services & subscriptions: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account used for Microsoft 365.
      • Under Microsoft 365, check whether the subscription is active, expired, or suspended.
      • If it has expired, renew it there.
    2. Check the payment method
    3. Verify whether it was really a duplicate charge
      • Review order history and compare the last few months of charges.
      • If only the expected number of monthly payments were taken over that period, it may be a late retry plus the normal monthly charge rather than a true double charge.
    4. Investigate unrecognized charges
      • On the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard, select Investigate to check whether the charge came from another Microsoft account using the same card.

If the charge still looks wrong after those checks, use Microsoft Support from the billing help flow to review the charge directly.
