Microsoft 365 Admin Center Displays a Deployment Error for Free Marketplace Apps

Issue

Users attempting to deploy our app through Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Integrated apps receive the following message:

Deployment error: We are unable to initiate the deployment. To deploy the app, go to the website where it is hosted.

The app can be installed successfully through Microsoft Marketplace/AppSource.

We reproduced this behavior using our test tenant and raised a case with Microsoft Commercial Marketplace Support. Microsoft confirmed that this is expected behavior for non-transactable offers using the "Get it Now (Free)" listing option and advised us to raise this with the product team through GitHub.

Suggestion

Since this is expected behavior rather than an actual deployment failure, displaying a "Deployment error" can be misleading and may cause administrators to believe there is an issue with the app.

Could you please consider improving this experience by presenting an informational message/redirect instead of an error when deployment needs to be completed through the publisher's website?

This would make the expected flow clearer and avoid unnecessary confusion for administrators deploying the app.
