Hi R D,
I understand how confusing this is, especially when Windows requires a PIN to set up fingerprint recognition but shows that the PIN itself is unavailable.
A Windows Hello PIN normally needs to be configured before fingerprint sign-in can be enrolled. Since the PIN option is currently unavailable, please first try the following:
- Install any pending updates under Settings > Windows Update, and then restart the PC.
- Sign out of Windows, sign back in using the account password, and return to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Expand PIN (Windows Hello) and check whether Set up or I forgot my PIN is available. If I forgot my PIN appears, follow the identity-verification prompts to create a new PIN.
- After the PIN has been created successfully, return to Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) and select Set up.
Please do not disconnect an account under Access work or school at this stage, particularly if the PC is managed by an employer or school, as that connection may be controlled by the organization.
If the PIN still shows as unavailable, could you share the exact message displayed under PIN (Windows Hello) and confirm whether you sign in with a Microsoft account email address, a local account, or a work/school account? Also, is the Set up button greyed out, or does an error appear after you select it? Those details will help determine whether this is an account-verification, policy, or Windows Hello configuration issue. Thank you so much for your understanding.
