Managing sound and video settings during Teams meetings and calls for optimal communication
Hi @Nikesh M
The Calls.AccessMedia.Chat permission is an RSC permission that allows access to media streams in calls associated with a specific chat or meeting. However, this permission by itself does not provide real-time transcription capabilities. Access to the media stream and transcription are separate capabilities.
If your bot is able to access and receive the live audio stream from the call, you can process that audio through a speech-to-text service to generate real-time transcripts. In other words, the permission grants access to the audio stream, while the transcription must be performed by your application or a speech recognition service.
Microsoft documentation lists Calls.AccessMedia.All as a required application permission for calls using application-hosted media, alongside the relevant call permission. This requirement is specific to that scenario. Therefore, whether Calls.AccessMedia.Chat is sufficient for your bot to receive raw live audio depends on the supported calling scenario and media implementation. The permission's description alone does not establish whether it supports your exact use case.
In summary, the permission itself does not perform transcription. If your bot can access the live audio stream in the supported scenario, real-time transcription is technically possible by processing that audio with a speech-to-text service.
