I cannot seem to get to New Outlook integrated with copilot. I have used new outlook on 2016 and uninstalled as suggested. I am in new outlook but it does not include the new features. I dont believe I am in the microsoft version of outlook but maybe in an app. How do I get to new Outlook with the new features?

    Hi Cindy Sparks,

Upgrading to Microsoft 365 Personal does not convert Outlook 2016 itself into new Outlook. Since you have already installed new Outlook, the next step is to confirm that the app is recognizing the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.

Please open new Outlook, select Settings > Accounts > Your accounts, and check whether the Microsoft account used to purchase Microsoft 365 Personal is listed there. If it is not, add that account and restart Outlook. You can also sign in to Outlook on the web with the same account and check whether Copilot appears there.

Could you also confirm whether you are the owner of the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and whether your email address is an Outlook.com/Hotmail account or from another provider? Please do not post the full email address publicly.

For reference: Copilot in Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium, and Pro Thank you so much for your understanding.

For a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, the correct path to the latest Outlook experience is new Outlook for Windows. If Outlook still looks old or is missing newer features, use this checklist:

    1. Confirm the Outlook app being used
      • If Outlook shows a Try the new Outlook toggle in the upper-right corner, that is the supported path into new Outlook.
      • Turn on Try the new Outlook.
      • In the setup flow, select Switch, then Import Settings.
      • When setup finishes, new Outlook opens and the account is added.
    2. If there is no toggle, install new Outlook from Microsoft Store
      • This can happen with a non-subscription Office app such as Office Home & Business, or when mail is being accessed another way.
      • On Windows, open Microsoft Store.
      • Select Get for new Outlook.
      • Windows must be Windows 10 version 17763.0 or later.
    3. Check whether classic Outlook is still installed from an older Office purchase
      • If the device was switched from Microsoft 365 to a one-time purchase of Office 2016, newer Microsoft 365 features do not remain available in that older Office installation.
      • Microsoft 365 subscription apps receive new features. One-time purchase Office 2016 does not.
    4. Make sure Microsoft 365 apps are fully updated
      • With Microsoft 365 Personal, the latest Office version is already included.
      • If newer features are missing, install the latest Office updates.
    5. Use the Microsoft 365 feature channel if available
      • In Outlook for Windows, selecting Get new features moves Outlook to Current Channel.
      • Current Channel receives new features as soon as they are available.
    6. Understand the Copilot limitation in Outlook
      • The available context does not confirm Copilot in Outlook for Microsoft 365 Personal on new Outlook for Windows.
      • It does confirm that Copilot in classic Outlook requires qualifying support conditions and that classic/new Outlook are different products.
    7. Verify that new Outlook is actually open
      • In classic Outlook, File opens a full-screen backstage view.
      • In new Outlook, invoking File opens a dropdown menu.
      • That is a quick way to tell which Outlook is running.

If the goal is specifically to get the newest Outlook experience on a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, the most direct fix is:

    • install or open new Outlook for Windows,
    • sign in with the Microsoft 365 Personal account,
    • update Office/new Outlook,
    • and use Get new features if that option appears.
