I had a Microsoft365 'Personal' subscription, which I just upgraded to 'Family' this morning for the reasons described below.

I am unable to save my WORD documents. Error: "Word cannot save or create this file. Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected, or damaged. (C:>>>Sept. 23, 2026 - Oct. 27, 2026...)".

I need to speak with someone on the phone. Please do not send me written instructions - please call me.

This problem with Saving a doc started only a couple of weeks ago. This morning, I lost a very important Document that I had saved - my monthly budget.

Thank you.

Mary S Unny.

    Hi!

The license type is unrelated to the error you are experiencing. I need more information to try and assist you.

Please answer the questions below and perform the requested tests:

    1. Does the issue occur in Excel or PowerPoint?
    2. Did the issue arise after any changes were made to Windows—such as adding an email account, installing a program, or performing an update?
    3. Do you have OneDrive set up? On the taskbar, click the "up arrow" icon (near the internet and sound icons). If you see a blue cloud icon, click it, then select the gear icon > Settings > Sync and Backup > Manage Backup. Check whether the folders are enabled.
    4. Where are you saving your files? (e.g., an external drive, a secondary drive, OneDrive, a local disk, your desktop, the Documents folder, etc.)

For live help, use Microsoft Support contact options to reach a support agent:

    1. Go to Contact Microsoft Support.
    2. Select Get Help.
    3. Select Contact Support or Sign in to contact support.
    4. Under Products and services, choose Microsoft 365 and Office.
    5. Under Category, choose Manage account subscription.
    6. Continue to the support options and choose Chat with a support agent on your web browser. In some cases, a phone callback option may also be offered.

For the Word save issue, the supported checks are:

    1. Check whether OneDrive storage is full. If storage is full, documents stored on OneDrive cannot be saved until usage is reduced. Check free space from the OneDrive icon in the notification area and choose Manage storage, or sign in to OneDrive and review used space.
    2. Check whether Office shows Unlicensed Product or an activation error. If Microsoft 365 or Office is not activated, or the subscription expired, saving and editing can be affected.
    3. If needed, try these recovery steps:
      • Restart the computer
      • Install Office updates
      • Perform an Online Repair of Office
      • Check the internet connection

If the issue is tied to the account used for the subscription, verify the correct Microsoft account on the Services & subscriptions page. Similar cases show that using the wrong Microsoft account can cause editing or activation problems.
