An Azure relational database service.
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A
Hello @Scott K I hope you are doing well,
Based on the error and the fact that you've tested multiple US regions with the same result, this does not appear to be a problem with the Azure SQL free offer itself.
A couple of things to check:
Verify that the Microsoft.Sql resource provider is registered for your subscription:
- Azure Portal → Subscriptions → Your Subscription → Resource providers
- Search for Microsoft.Sql
- If it is not registered, select Register. If it is already registered, try Re-register.
- Search for Microsoft.Sql
- If Microsoft.Sql is registered and the issue persists across multiple regions, the subscription may be subject to a region-access restriction for Azure SQL provisioning.
Could you confirm what type of subscription you're using?
- Azure Free Account
- Azure for Students
- Visual Studio Subscription
- Pay-As-You-Go
- Sponsorship / Credits subscription
- Pay-As-You-Go
- Visual Studio Subscription
- Azure for Students
Also, if possible, please share the full error message and the specific regions you've tested. That will help determine whether this is a registration issue, a region-access restriction, or a capacity-related limitation.
