Microsoft account locked ("account recovery has been blocked") – owns an active Azure subscription, recovery form fails
Our company Microsoft account owns a Pay-As-You-Go Azure subscription. It was approved by account review on 12 Oct 2026 (support case now closed). Since 14 Oct, sign-in fails with "Account recovery has been blocked – unusual activity". The likely trigger: the account was created on my phone over a travel eSIM that exits in another country, and later sign-ins came from my PC on local Wi-Fi, so the account saw several devices, networks and countries within three days.
What I tried:
- Account recovery form (twice, from the PC and from the phone used to create the account): declined within minutes, as the account is only a few days old, passwordless and has no Outlook history.
- Support form for "can't sign in to the Azure portal": requires SMS verification to a phone number I no longer have.
Impact: the subscription is in use, but nobody can manage it. I cannot see billing, set a budget alert, rotate keys or add a second owner as a safeguard. Each further attempt to get help seems to make the account look more suspicious, so I have stopped trying and am asking here instead.
Could a moderator please open a support case for this? I can share the account name, subscription ID and the previous case number by private message. I can only be contacted in writing.
