For a personal Microsoft 365 subscription, this usually means the account is seeing the wrong storage state, not that Word or OneDrive is actually out of space.
- Check the subscription status at Services & subscriptions. Confirm the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is listed as active.
- Check the storage quota shown for the same personal Microsoft account by signing in and opening the Microsoft storage section: Sign in.
- In OneDrive, open Manage your OneDrive storage and review what is counted toward storage, including files, photos, and items in the Recycle Bin. Emptying the Recycle Bin can reduce usage.
- If Outlook.com is also affected, check mailbox storage and the Outbox, because Microsoft storage can affect Outlook.com mail as well.
- If the subscription was renewed recently, allow up to 24 hours for the subscription to become visible in storage management.
- If the subscription is active and storage still incorrectly shows full after that, contact Microsoft Support. For personal accounts, use Contact Microsoft Support or open the OneDrive app on mobile and gently shake the device to contact Support.
What “cloud storage is full” means for a personal account:
- OneDrive files can become read-only.
- New uploads, edits, and sync can stop.
- Outlook.com mail can stop sending and receiving.
- Teams personal messages with attachments can be affected.
What counts toward personal Microsoft storage:
- OneDrive files and photos
- Items in the OneDrive Recycle Bin
- Outlook.com pictures and attachments, and other files stored with Microsoft apps and services
