"Suggested contacts" list in Outlook.

Hello,

I have a problem with the "Suggested contacts" list in Outlook.

When I click in the empty To field, Outlook shows suggested contacts that are many years old. One example is Simon Clouting (******@gmail.com). My last email to him was in 2018, and since then I have sent thousands of emails to hundreds of other people. He still appears among the top suggestions.

The problem occurs both in Outlook on the web (outlook.live.com) and in classic Outlook for Microsoft 365 on my PC.

What I have already tried:

  • Clicking the X next to the suggestion in classic Outlook. The contact disappears but comes back.
  • Emptying the Auto-Complete List in classic Outlook (File > Options > Mail).
  • Selecting the suggestion with the arrow keys and pressing Delete in Outlook on the web. Nothing happens, and there is no X to click.
  • Checking my contacts. The person is not saved as a contact, and I have no favorites.
  • Looking for a "Suggested Contacts" folder. It does not exist.

My accounts:

  • ******@outlook.com
  • ******@hotmail.com

Most of my emails are sent from: [insert which address]

Could you please reset or clear the suggested contacts / recipient cache for my account, or tell me how I can remove outdated suggestions myself?

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Carsten Frederiksen

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

If you wish to delete a suggested contact in classic Outlook, when the suggestion appears, use the up/down arrow keys to select it, then press the Delete key. That should remove the suggestion.
