I am trying to use the Xbox 360 external HD DVD Drive with my computer (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit). It is properly connected to a usable USB 3.0 Port via a USB cable, the Device Manager sees it as "Xbox 360 HD DVD Memory Unit", but it does not appear in Windows File Explorer as a DVD-ROM Drive at all. In "SETTINGS -> Blurtooth and other devives" appears as Xbox 360 HD DVD Memory Unit, but the appearace is followed by the note: "Driver is unavailable". I wonder if I can find and install the appropriate driver for it, in order to make it work with my computer. If this can be achieved, I have no problem playing disks with it, since proper software is already installed in my computer.

The device is being detected over USB, but Windows is not loading a usable optical-drive driver for it. The supported troubleshooting path is:

    1. Check for updated drivers through Windows Update.
      • In Windows 10, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options.
      • Turn Receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows On.
      • Go back to Windows Update and select Check for updates.
      • If View optional updates appears, open it, select any driver updates, and install them.
      • Restart the PC after installation.
    2. Reinstall the detected device from Device Manager.
      • Press the Windows logo key, type Device Manager, and press Enter.
      • Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives if the device appears there. If not, check the related detected entry.
      • Right-click the CD/DVD device and select Uninstall device.
      • Confirm Uninstall.
      • Restart the computer so Windows installs the driver again automatically.
    3. Reinstall IDE/ATAPI controller drivers.
      • In Device Manager, select View > Show hidden devices.
      • Expand IDE/ATAPI Controllers.
      • Uninstall ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 1, Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller, and any additional entries there.
      • Restart the PC. Windows reinstalls these drivers automatically.
    4. Verify hardware detection outside Windows driver state.
      • Check that the drive is enabled in BIOS.
      • Make sure chipset drivers for the PC are current from the computer manufacturer.
    5. If Windows still shows Driver is unavailable and the drive never appears in File Explorer, check the hardware connection.
      • Test a different USB cable.
      • Test another USB port.

If Windows Update and reinstalling the device do not produce a working DVD/CD-ROM entry in File Explorer, the remaining supported path is to get a compatible driver from the hardware manufacturer’s website. If no compatible Windows 10 driver exists for that device, Windows will continue to detect the USB device without exposing it as a usable DVD-ROM drive.
