Hello Microsoft Teams platform team,
We are testing a private, organisation-only Teams app in our own tenant. We are not seeking Teams Store publication.
We need a capability confirmation, not a general manifest review.
Organisation / product
Publisher: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
App name: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
Purpose of this test: observe this user’s own outgoing camera picture in a live Teams meeting. Pass-through only. We do not intend to alter the outgoing video or access any other participant’s camera.
App id declared in our working package: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
Teams Admin Center app record id: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
Filter id: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
Filter name:[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
Configuration URL (reachable in a browser):[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
Client: New Teams desktop for Windows, version 26260.1717.5220.7049
Teams Public preview: On (Early access)
Tenant settings already enabled
Custom apps: On
“Let users interact with custom apps in preview”: On
App published in the organisation catalogue (version 1.0.4)
Same app also present as a user “Customised app” sideload
Teams fully quit and restarted after install; meeting retested with a fresh Meet now
What works Package 1.0.4 uses:
$schema: https://developer.microsoft.com/json-schemas/teams/vDevPreview/MicrosoftTeams.schema.json
manifestVersion: devPreview
meetingExtensionDefinition.videoFilters (GUID, name, 74:42 thumbnail)
meetingExtensionDefinition.videoFiltersConfigurationUrl
RSC: CameraStream.Read.User and OutgoingVideoStream.Write.User (Delegated)
No extra undocumented fields on the filter object
This package installs successfully via organisation catalogue and via desktop “Upload a customised app”.
What does not work In a live meeting, More → Video effects and settings shows only None / Blur / Add new (and standard Microsoft backgrounds). There is no named “[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed] 2.1” tile.
So: Teams accepts the app as an app. The meeting client does not register it as a video filter.
Stable-schema control test We also built package 1.0.5 with manifestVersion 1.29 and the v1.29 schema, keeping the same app id, filter id, and the same two meetingExtensionDefinition properties.
Both of these rejected it with the same errors:
Teams Admin Center → Manage apps → Upload file
Teams desktop → Manage your apps → Upload a customised app
Exact validation text:
Schema validation failed at 'meetingExtensionDefinition.videoFilters': Property "videoFilters" has not been defined and the schema does not allow additional properties.
Schema validation failed at 'meetingExtensionDefinition.videoFiltersConfigurationUrl': Property "videoFiltersConfigurationUrl" has not been defined and the schema does not allow additional properties.
We will not retry 1.29. That path is closed on our current validators.
Public docs describe videoFilters / videoFiltersConfigurationUrl, but the stable Teams upload schema our validators use does not accept them. The developer-preview schema does accept them, and that is the package that installs.
Questions — please answer explicitly
Does the current New Teams desktop client support registering a named video-filter tile from an arbitrary custom app uploaded to an organisation catalogue or sideloaded by a user?
Is this capability restricted to Microsoft first-party apps, Store-published apps, approved publishers, or an allowlisted developer-preview programme?
If it is supported for a private organisation-only app, which exact manifestVersion / schema and package shape should we use?
If it is supported, is any additional tenant entitlement, Entra/app registration, or runtime configuration required before the tile appears in Video effects?
If it is not supported today, is there a documented preview programme or timeline we should join, rather than continuing to test locally?
Out of scope until question 1 is answered We are not changing permissions or the configuration page until Microsoft confirms that filter registration is available to private custom apps. Appearing in the gallery and receiving camera frames are separate steps; we are blocked on the first.
We have a reproducible test case and can provide the 1.0.4 ZIP, the rejected 1.0.5 ZIP, and screenshots of the validation errors.
A clear yes/no on platform support will save both sides a lot of speculative packaging.
