Contact the seller that issued the physical Windows 11 Pro package and request a replacement key using your receipt and the damaged key card; if Microsoft sold it directly, contact Microsoft Support instead.
What to provide
Keep the following intact and take clear photographs:
- The damaged product-key label or card
- The original packaging
- Receipt, invoice, or order confirmation
- Any readable barcode, QR code, serial number, or character code
Do not post photographs or the readable portion of the key publicly.
Contact the correct party
- Physical copy from a retailer: Contact that retailer first. Microsoft’s guidance places the key for an authorized-retailer purchase on the label or card inside the box and directs customers back to the retailer for more information.^1^ A matching damaged-key case also directs purchasers to the retailer for verification and replacement assistance.^2^
- Purchased directly from Microsoft: Check the purchase confirmation email and Microsoft account order history first. Microsoft retains key records for purchases made through its online store.^1^ If it is not available there, contact Microsoft Support with the proof of purchase.
- Included with a custom-built PC: Contact the PC builder. For this type of OEM purchase, the builder must handle the licensing request and can escalate through its Microsoft partner channel.^3^
- Windows 11 Pro came preinstalled by a major PC manufacturer: The key may already be preinstalled on the PC, so connect it to the internet and check Start → Settings → System → Activation. If it does not activate, contact the device manufacturer with the purchase details.^1^
- Windows 11 Pro upgrade bought through the Microsoft Store app: This normally uses a digital license associated with the purchasing Microsoft account rather than a key that must be entered. Sign in on the PC with that account and check Settings → System → Activation.^4^
For Microsoft Support, open the Microsoft Support contact page, enter Contact Support, sign in with a personal Microsoft account, select Windows, and choose the available support/contact option. Support may request the receipt and all readable details from the damaged label before determining whether the key can be recovered or reissued.^2^
