For Microsoft 365 apps, the available way to turn off Copilot depends on the app and device.

    For Word, Excel, and PowerPoint:

    • On Windows, go to File > Options > Copilot.
    • Clear Enable Copilot.
    • Select OK, then close and restart the app.

    Important details:

    • This setting applies per app, per device. If Copilot is bothering in both Word and Excel, it must be turned off in each app separately.
    • On iPad/iOS, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint do not support turning off Copilot directly in the app.

If the Enable Copilot checkbox is not available yet, use the privacy setting instead:

    • On Windows, go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings.
    • Under Connected experiences, clear Turn on experiences that analyze your content.
    • Select OK, then close and restart the app.
    • This change affects the other Microsoft 365 apps the next time they open.

Note: turning off experiences that analyze your content also turns off other features such as suggested replies in Outlook, text predictions in Word, PowerPoint Designer, and automatic alt text for images.

    For Outlook:

    • On iOS, go to Quick Settings > Copilot and turn off Turn on Copilot.
    • In new Outlook on Windows, go to Settings > Copilot and turn off Turn on Copilot.
    • This Outlook setting applies to the same account across devices.

If the issue is in Microsoft Edge on the laptop, Copilot can also be limited there:

    • Open the More menu (...) in Edge.
    • Select Copilot and AI.
    • Turn off Allow Copilot to read context clues on the web.

If the problem is specifically that text is being changed while typing in Word on iPad, the context only supports turning off Copilot directly in Windows/Mac apps, not in iOS Word. In that case, the supported option is to turn off Copilot where available and, for Microsoft 365 apps without that switch, use the privacy setting on desktop apps.
