Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hello,
According to Microsoft’s security policy, if you remove all existing security information, such as a phone number or email address, and replace it with new information, your account will be placed in a restricted state for 30 days. Microsoft cannot expedite this waiting period. During this time, you will be unable to sign in to services that require your security information.
If you make major software or firmware changes to your PC, such as a BIOS update, it can affect the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and cause your Windows Hello PIN to stop working. If this happens, Windows may ask you to create a new PIN.
To verify your identity, Microsoft will send a verification code to one of the recovery methods associated with your account. If you cannot access any of these methods, you cannot bypass this security requirement. You must select “I don’t have any of these” and follow the prompts to replace your security information, as you have already done.
You currently have two options:
- Wait 30 days for your security information to be updated. Once the waiting period ends, you should be able to verify your identity, access the PC, and save your files.
- Reset your PC to its factory settings through the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). You can then set up the PC with another Microsoft account while the security information for your original account is being updated. Keep in mind that resetting the PC may remove your files, apps, and settings.
To boot your PC into WinRE:
- Turn on your Computer.
- When you see your PC manufacturer or Windows logo, turn off your PC by holding the power button.
- Repeat the same process 2-3 times.
- Next time, allow your PC to fully boot into WinRE.
- Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Remove Everything and proceed with Local reinstallation.
